Mitchell College Names New Vice President

Michael Fishbein to be Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College.

From a press released issued by Mitchell College

Dr. Michael Fishbein begins this week as Mitchell College’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College. He comes to Mitchell from his most recent post as Vice Chancellor for Special Projects at Antioch University Midwest.
He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and insight from his service at Antioch and in key administrative roles at Daniel Webster College, Lyndon State College of the Vermont State Colleges, Cazenovia College, The College of Saint Rose, and The Sage Colleges. A professor of psychology, he has taught at Daniel Webster College, Roosevelt University and Vassar College.

President Mary Ellen Jukoski remarks, “on behalf of the faculty and staff, I am delighted to have someone of Dr. Fishbein’s considerable experience and solid expertise on our team.”

Dr. Fishbein holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and a master’s in Social Psychology from Clark University and a bachelor’s with special honors in psycology from Bernard M. Baruch College, City University of New York. He has been published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology and Psychological Reports and has presented at numerous academic conferences spanning over three decades.

Having met with many members of the campus community and taken part in the 69th Commencement ceremony at Mitchell, Dr. Fishbein remarks, “Mitchell College is well-positioned for success at a time in the history of higher education as challenging as any we have ever seen.  I believe this because the College has made prudent, though sometimes painful, decisions; it has the faith of a passionate, committed, and student-driven faculty and staff; and because we have opportunities to which we can rise going forward together.”

Dr. Fishbein plans to be very visible around campus, talking and working together with faculty and students. He already has been in close consultation with President Mary Ellen Jukoski, outgoing Vice President Laurence Conner, and other members of the President’s Cabinet. His most recent visit to campus coincided with the College’s regularly scheduled NEASC Accreditation visit, which afforded him a laser-focused view of Mitchell College at a naturally reflective moment for the institution.
