ISAAC Receives Grant From CL&P, Yankee Gas

School gets funds for community garden program

 

The is one of four organizations that will receive a grant to support their environmental initiatives.

Connecticut Light & Power and Yankee Gas awarded ISAAC with $1,200 to support its Community Garden Give-Back Program. The money will be used to purchase flower bulbs, planters, and soil. ISAAC has 181 students in grades seven through nine who attend from New London and 11 other southeastern Connecticut communities, according to the school's website.

CL&P and Yankee Gas also awarded:

  • $1,500 to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic for their "Family Backpack" initiative
  • $1,500 to Natchaug Hospital in Mansfield Center to turn their interior courtyard into a therapeutic space and recreational area
  • $897 for the Georgetown-based Norwalk River Watershed Initiative to support the creation of an interactive rain garden model, which will educate homeowners on how to filter stormwater runoff from roofs, driveways, and other surfaces.

The Environmental Community Grant Program is sponsored by the CL&P and Yankee Gas parent company, Northeast Utilities, and funds local community and grassroots environmental projects.
