Regional Multicultural Magnet School fundraiser takes place on Friday

will hold its 10th annual auction event this weekend to raise funds for mini-grants within the school to fund trips and projects.

The event, or Helping Education Through Art, will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday at the . Tickets are $40 per person or $75 per couple, and may be purchased in advance at the RMMS reception desk or at the door on the night of the event.

“A lot of the year is spent planning and organizing this auction,” said Ben Buehler, a member of the RMMS Foundation Board. “Otherwise, we give away money to the kids as well as the teachers.”

Buehler, a 1999 RMMS graduate, said the event is the board’s main fundraiser. Proceeds will go toward programs and projects proposed by teachers, with the board selecting which programs to fund in spring and fall grant cycles. The things sponsored by the grants have included field trips, e-readers for children having difficulty reading, and science and environmental programs.

The event got its name from its early days as a silent auction solely for works of art. The offerings have expanded to include gift certificates to restaurants, golf outings, a fishing trip, and other prizes.

Go Fish will cater the event, and the band Dogbite will provide live entertainment.
