“Five Decades after ‘Silent Spring”

A panel discussion celebrating the 50th anniversary of the publication of Rachel Carson’s “Silent Spring,” the book often credited with launching the environmental movement, 3:30 p.m., Ernst Common Room in Blaustein Humanities Center. Panelists include Wendy Blake-Coleman ’75, from the Office of Environmental Information at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Naomi Oreskes, professor of history and social science at the University of California, San Diego; Helen Rozwadowski, associate professor of history at the University of Connecticut; and Peter Siver, professor of botany and director of the environmental studies program at Connecticut College. The panel will be moderated by Linda Lear ’62, author of “Rachel Carson: Witness for Nature.”  A reception will follow in the lobby of Shain Library.
