Connecticut College Freshmen To Conduct Community Service Around New London

500 incoming students will go to 10 sites on Saturday as part of orientation

is adding a community service component to its freshmen orientation this year, having incoming students participate in activities around New London.

More than 500 incoming students will visit 10 sites in the city on Saturday. The activities are being organized by the Office of Volunteers for Community Service at Connecticut College as well as New London organizations.

"The program is designed to serve several purposes: help freshmen get
acquainted with each other, introduce them to their host city,
introduce them to the college's many volunteer and service learning
opportunities and benefit our community partners in New London," said Amy Martin, manager of media relations at the college.

Students are scheduled to arrive at the locations at 10 a.m. and work until 12:45 p.m. The 10 sites where students will be performing community service are:

  • FRESH community gardens
  • The Upper Bank Think Tank at
