Community Input Sought On School Year Extension

New London's school year will increase by 300 hours under pilot program

New London Public Schools is looking to hear input from the community on a pilot program extending the school year by 300 hours.

A public forum will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday at the Jennings School. Anyone interested in attending should RSVP with Ann Burdick at burdicka@newlondon.org.

New London is one of 11 school districts in five states participating in the program, which aims to improve student achievement and increase instructional time. The three-year program will be financed by federal, state, and local funds as well as the Ford Foundation and National Center on Time and Learning.

In New London, the participating schools are Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, Jennings School, Nathan Hale School, and Winthrop School. The district intends to use the extra time to assist struggling students, provide enrichment activities, and improve teacher collaboration.
