Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School Chorus Performs At Board Of Education

The Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School chorus treated attendees at Thursday's Board of Education meeting to a selection of three songs.

The chorus was dormant for about 10 years before it was revived last year. Superintendent Nicholas Fischer said the choir grew from 30 students in that school year to 83 in the current one.

Lisa Marien, choir director and general music and chorus teacher at BDJMS, said no auditions are necessary to join the group and that it is open to students in grades six through eight.

About half of the chorus participated in the performance at Thursday's meeting.

"You can imagine," said Marien. "What you have here tonight, double is our usual. It's been a pretty amazing year."

The chorus will perform at a concert at 6 P.m. on June 30 at BDJMS.
