What is the Y?, When does a promise expire?

Our Impact is Felt Every Day

With a mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all, our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good.

As shown on the Y national website the mission is about CHRISTIAN principles being put into practice every day. This would appear to be somewhat discriminate in the society of today. What about those community members that are not of a CHRISTIAN faith? What about the separation of church and state? Are these principles past their the expiration date in the city of New London as is the promise to restore Veterans Field as athletic fields for the youth and the neighborhoods?

Mr. Passero a city council president thinks that a promise becomes invalid after time has passed. It is clear that councilors Nolan, Hyslop and Macrino feel the same way since the committee chaired by Nolan passed the resolution up to the full council. That action indicates support of the resolution. It appears that in New London the time frame for a promise to expire is 8-10 years according to Mr. Passero.

Passero For New London Katherine, the Collaborative has been working very openly for over 3 years, by building a broad coalition of community partners, having publicly noticed meetings, regular press releases, a web based and paper poll of the community, in English and Spanish, that nearly 600 people participated in, and community forums for different interest groups. The Collaborative has raised $35K to get to this point. Part of the final choice of a site is building community consensus. If the community still believes the best use of Veterans Field is to turn it back into a playing field, then that is what will happen. At this stage, the Collaborative is doing what you seem to want, notifying the community that the site has been identified by the professionals working with the Collaborative as the most promising site to give the city an opportunity at building a long needed and desired indoor recreational facility. The discussion is just beginning and all input is needed and all opinions are wanted by the Collaborative. All we ask is for open minds to study the proposal. Why shut down the community discussion by simply foreclosing an option based on an 8-10 year old commitment before even studying the proposal?

How long should one’s word or a promise be good for? Should it ever expire? If this organization has worked openly for over three years please identify the members of the affected neighborhoods that have been included. When and where did this collaborative meet? Are the minutes posted anywhere for review by the community members?
