To whom the rules apply

The tumultuous hip little city on the Thames has accepted a new attitude towards laws, rules and common sense in the last 25 months.

On the FACE BOOK just yesterday a post was shared that clearly showed a photo of a city vehicle parked on the lawn of a home. Initial outrage was that the moron operating the city vehicle demonstrated a complete lack of common sense as well as respect for private property and the ordinances of the hip little city. Closer inspection of the post revealed that the city vehicle was none other than NL-1, that is correct the chariot that carries the king to and from his official and non official functions was parked on the lawn of the house in which he resides. This is most interesting because in efforts over the years to clean up and present New London in a better manner many residents have been cited for violating the ordinance that prohibits parking on lawns.

The broader view is that from day one this mayor and his administration have demonstrated an attitude that the rules are not for him or his staff. Rules are for other people. The do as the rules say and not as I do style of running this city has failed the community miserably.

Try to recall the number of incidents that money has been moved, shuffled or spent without the legally required approval or ordinance passed by the council as mandated by charter. Recall the amount of over spending allowed by the director of finance and the fact that the charter of the city of New London clearly outlines that the director of finance is directly and personally responsible for that money that was spent or dispersed without proper authority by the city council. Most importantly recall that the mayor and the previously city council president (Michael Passero) praised the actions and capabilities of the director of finance while they both failed to take the needed steps to hold the director of finance accountable and recover the money that belongs to the taxpayers of New London. Please remember that both of these men and self proclaimed leaders of the community are well educated men that have passed the bar and practice law so there is no excuse at all for their cooperative failure to uphold the charter and follow the rules with respect to the finances of the city.

The people of New London need to remember that the rules are not for the mayor, his administration or any of his co-conspirators that hold elected or appointed positions in the community and that they the people of New London have stood by and allowed this to happen.

How many other times or organizations has this attitude become the norm for in New London?
