The solution for the Whaling City

The article in The Day this morning (http://theday.com/article/20140223/NWS01/302239906/1017) has clarified the root cause of all the problems in the city. We owe this revelation to the first strong mayor in over 80 years. Electing this “THE BUCK STOPS HERE” leader was a stroke of brilliance by the voters of New London. The voters of New London were clearly too close to the problem to see or grasp the simple reality. New London needed an outsider to come in and expose the causes.

The cause of the problem in New London is the people of New London. The parents, the children and the teachers are what is wrong with the school system. The residents, the taxpayers, the business owners and the community in general are what is wrong with the city.

The solution is very simple. All the people; the parents, their children, the teachers, the business owners, the taxpayers, the patrons, everyone needs to leave New London. Only then can the city get better and turn the corner to success. The caveat is that all these people must leave behind their money and once the people are gone and there is more money mayor Finizio and his highly trained, highly qualified staff and administration can move the city along with his vision plan.

Look at these statements by mayor Finizio in the Day article:

Finizio admits times are tough but said that's to be expected when business people, the City Council and voters do not support budgets at levels required to pay for necessary services. He said the complaints are the result of a difficult winter and political opposition from New London's "old guard."

"They say, 'This kid came in and screwed it all up and that's why we're in all this trouble,'" said Finizio, a newcomer to city politics who became New London's first elected mayor in more than 90 years.

Putting off necessary maintenance in years past led to a "slow cannibalism" that has "finally caught up with us," Finizio said. The finger-pointing going on, he added, serves to deflect previous city officials' culpability for the current problems.

"They ran it into the ground," he said. "All the people who used to run the town wrecked it."

Finizio said complaints over too much garbage on the street is understandable, but the problem occurs because there aren't enough employees available to both plow the streets and pick up trash. Parking complaints are also to be expected in a downtown not designed for automobiles, but parking issues would be alleviated, he said, if the city spent money to install parking meters.

Finizio called it "unrealistic" to expect that customers in a city could pull up into parking spaces next to a store. Building more parking capacity and expanding current garages, he said, should be part of the city's traffic solution.

"We need to park in garages," he said.

"Anyone who calls gets an appointment," he said. "I'm happy to go to any business and talk to anyone."

People of New London you are all in fact the problem. Mayor Finizio has pointed this out constantly for over two years. When will the people get in line with the remaining twenty five mayor supporters and do the right thing?

Most surprising in the day article was the statement of a former and vocal Finizio cheerleader Rich Martin. Has Rich Martin come to see Finizio to be more the problem than the solution? Perspectives change when the actions of those that you support begin to negatively impact your livelihood. Those people that spoke up or commented in this article in the Day will be new targets of the mayor and his administration, so watch your back.
