NEVER CONFUSE MOTION WITH ACTION

Never confuse motion with action. (Benjamin Franklin)

The election in New London is over and the outcome was a surprise to all and a shock to some. As time to reflect passes it is clear that time to act is now.

What has happened in New London can be summarized in the thesis:

“EXPERIMENTS IN POLITICAL SOCIOLOGY AND THE MANIPULATION OF THE UNKNOWING DEMOCRATIC ELECTORATE”

New London is a democratic town; all can agree and understand that simple fact. What is difficult to comprehend is that an outsider, a former republican can arrive new on the scene, a complete unknown, put on the name tag of the democrats and infiltrate their ranks so completely that the democratic governor, the democratic state and federal delegation in conjunction with a large number of the labor unions march in lock step with him.

It is very simple to see that this republican in democratic clothing has completely manipulated the democratic electorate in New London that this midterm election was a near sweep for the handpicked team of mayoral yes people. Why and how did this happen? It is not because this administration has done a wonderful of even an OK job since taking office nearly two years ago. The administration has failed miserably; those incumbents that were put back in office have failed miserably. The only explanation for this second success for the mayor is complete apathy of the core and educated voter base in New London. How can these people care so little about their community?

In the final hours of election day there was a huge push put on by the democratic team and the mayor, voter turnout was low and they were not confident, so desperation set in and a huge effort was begun to mobilize as many favorable and uninformed voters as possible. It worked and the democratic slate took six seats on the council and nearly swept the Board of Education as well.

The opposition was in motion, yet they were not taking the action necessary to secure a win at the polls. Action, not motion needs to begin now in order for the tide in New London to turn to a responsible and transparent government. The next mayoral election is less than two short years away. Failure to act now will yield the same results in November of 2015.

This administration is no friend to the working family or to labor. Look at what has been done to the New London Police Department and the threats and coercive steps taken by the administration against the police union and the leadership of that union. This is what is in the cards for the other unions in the city as time moves forward.

This EXPERIMENT IN POLITICAL SOCIOLOGY AND THE MANIPULATION OF THE UNKNOWING DEMOCRATIC ELECTORATE being played out by the mayor and his administration has been a huge success thus far and the city has suffered as the experiment goes on.

The silver lining in all of this is that now the number of signatures for a referendum has been reduced to less than 300. One action that should take place is a referendum on each and every measure by the council that is not in the best interest of all of those in New London.
