Two Sergeants Promoted In New London Police Department

Mayor Daryl Finizio announces that George Potts and Lawrence Keating Jr. will become lieutenants

Two sergeants in the New London Police Department will be promoted to lieutenants, Mayor Daryl Finizio announced today. Sgts. Lawrence Keating Jr. and George Potts will be formally sworn in at 5 p.m. on Thursday at City Hall.

Potts joined the department in 1990 and was promoted to sergeant in 2003; he was also named Officer of the Year for 2003. Keating joined the department in 1995. He was a DARE officer in 2003 and earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2006. Keating said he was promoted to detective in 2006 and sergeant in 2009.

Potts has received 16 letters of commendation, 11 letters of appreciation, and 13 letters of acknowledgement during his career at the NLPD. Keating has received three letters of commendation, three letters of appreciation, and six letters of acknowledgement during his career.
