The deadline to enroll for health coverage under the federal Affordable Health Care Act is rapidly approaching if you want to start the new year with health insurance and avoid a tax penalty.

You can enroll anytime from now to March 31, 2014, but to obtain health coverage that begins on January 1, 2014, you need to enroll by December 23, 2013.

If all the bad press about problems with the federal government's online registration process has made you leery about signing up virtually, there are two opportunities to register in person in New London next week.
Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut, in partnership with Access Health CT, will host a health insurance enrollment fair on Monday, December 16 at the B.P. Learned Mission, 40 Shaw Street in New London from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Residents who are interested in enrolling can set up appointments in advance by calling Eva Bermudez at (203) 895.4403.

New London residents will have a second opportunity to enroll on Thursday, December 19, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at New London Public Library, 63 Huntington Street. Space is limited so advance appointments are encouraged. You can RSVP for New London » here.

Both events provide uninsured or underinsured residents opportunity to learn more about their health coverage options available under the federal Affordable Care Act and enroll in a plan of their choice.

Certified Navigators and Assisters from Access Health CT, Connecticut’s official insurance marketplace, will be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance about health care coverage options and available tax credit subsidies, and help residents and their families enroll in Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace through www.AccessHealthCT.com.
