Transfer Station To Open Saturday Due To Holiday Delay

New London Department of Public Works announces special hours following Columbus Day closing

The Department of Public Works has announced that the transfer station will have special hours on Saturday due to the delay in city services on Monday.

Municipal services were closed on Monday in observance of Columbus Day. Public Works Director Tim Hanser said curbside solid waste and recycling collection was delayed until today as a result and that regular Monday collections will resume on Oct. 15. The transfer station was also closed for the holiday, and as a result it will be open on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

As part of a reduction in services to meet its budget earlier this year, the Department of Public Works eliminated Saturday hours at the transfer station. The department will also halt solid waste and recycling collection during snow plowing operations and suspend separate trips to pick up yard waste and Christmas trees. Residents may take these items to the transfer station for composting.
