Third Union Endorses Buscetto For Mayor

Local 1378, representing clerical employees in city, takes vote on Tuesday

A third union was endorsed City Councilor in his bid to be the elected mayor of New London.

The City of New London Public Works Local 1378 took the vote after their mayoral endorsement committee met on Tuesday. Kathy Harrington, who chaired the committee and is an executive board member of the union, said questionnaires with 11 inquiries were sent to candidates a month ago. She said Buscetto and City Councilor Rob Pero responded.

"We know that this is a historic election because of the first elected mayor," said Harrington. "We know that this will be something important for the residents and workers of the city...We just felt that for this first time Mike Buscetto would be the best candidate."

Harrington said the union represents clerical workers and dispatchers in the , as well as clerical workers in several other municipal departments including the , , , , and the . She said the union has made endorsements for City Council elections and participates in community activities such as donations to the and the book bank at .

Buscetto is one of three people vying for the Democratic nomination and six people running for the mayor's office. He has also won the endorsement of the and .
