Public Library Of New London Cuts Wednesday Morning Hours

The Public Library of New London will be opening a little later on Wednesday starting this week.

Suzanne Maryeski, the library director, told the City Council that Wednesday hours will be reduced to 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting on July 3. Regular hours will continue on other days including 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

"I know that New London is in a very difficult financial situation," said Maryeski. "But we have almost a nine percent cut this year."

Maryeski said no layoffs will occur under the budget, but that two recently vacated positions - a reference librarian and children's librarian - will not be filled. She said she will ask for funding to hire staffers for these positions on the next budget cycle.
