OpSail 2012 To Announce Coast Guard, Navy Ships

Connecticut organizers holding press conference on Thursday at Fort Trumbull State Park

Several officials from the government, military, and Coast Guard are scheduled to be in New London on Thursday to announce the military ships that will be part of the Connecticut section of OpSail 2012.

The event, which coincides with Flag Day, will reveal the Coast Guard and Navy ships taking part in the War of 1812 bicentennial event. have confirmed that they will participate in OpSail 2012, which visits Niantic and New London from July 6 to 9.

The announcement will take place at 2 p.m. at . Organizers will also note important actions in Connecticut that occurred during the War of 1812.

Government officials set to attend the announcement include Senator Richard Blumenthal, Rep. Joe Courtney, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, State Senator Andrea Stillman, and Mayor Daryl Finizio. Military officials include Capt. March Denno, commanding officer of U.S. Navy Sub Base New London; Commander Holly Najarian and Lt. Amy Miller of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island; and Major Charles Jaworski of the 192nd Engineer Battalion of the .
