NLFD Receives $14,203 Grant

Department receives funds through Assistance to Firefighters Grants program

The New London Fire Department has received a $14,203 grant through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program, Rep. Joe Courtney announced on Wednesday. The program, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is subdivided into four areas for specific needs.

The grant to the New London Fire Department was given through the Fire Prevention and Safety Grants section of the program. This type of grant is used for research and development and fire safety initiatives with the goal of targeting "high-risk populations [to] reduce injury and prevent death."

“These grants are a tremendous boost for the brave first responders who keep our communities safe,” Courtney said in a statement. “This funding will give career and volunteer firefighters the tools they need to respond to emergencies and mitigate future hazards and incidents. I commend both departments on securing these grants. They demonstrated not only their skill and ability, but the need for this kind of support.”
