This is one of those weird but true stories coming out of New London.

The town is suing a coupe that owns property at 18 Viets Street alleging they are operating a commercial volleyball league from their own backyard, the New London Day reports.

Edinson G. Mizhquiri and Judith Fajardo own the property, and claim that the volleyball is just played with friends, and it’s not an organized league, the Day reports.

The city did approve allowing them to operate the volleyball court, but lately they have run afoul of land use officials because the net is higher than eight feet off the ground and they installed more lighting than was approved, the Day reports.

The couple could also face a $2,500 fine.

This is absolutely nuts. The city brings suit against a taxpayer and property owner. This is hypocritical since the members of the council and the mayor have a sworn duty to enforce the charter and ordinances yet they all fail on a daily basis with respect to that. Bums, all 7 councilors and the mayor are bums. Toss them all out.

Don't toss out Marty--or Mike T--they are good guys!

The City needs the money in order to help pay for all of the brand stinking new bike racks that have been appearing downtown, seemingly over night. Of course...recovering just $2,500 from this court case would be just barely enough to pay the City's lawyer processing this case. but I guess it just the principle of the matter that counts. Oh--by the way folks, did you know that the City settled a case where they have to pay $50,000---because of an arrest--after a brawl? Yeah--New London is court crazy lately. No pun intended!

I cannot believe that a community can place such dumb and arrogant people in a position of leadership for this city. We have an entire neighborhood, Fort Trumbull, laying in waste for a decade.....and these people are squabbling about a volleyball court in someone's yard. Also, so true in regards to lawyer fees....did you see the budget for lawyer's fee this fiscal year....absolute crooks. We all need to stand up to these people/crooks in charge and demand what's right for the city.
