New London Streets Closing At 1 P.M.

Traffic to be limited to emergency vehicles and evacuees beginning this afternoon

New London's streets will be closed to traffic beginning at 1 p.m., Mayor Daryl Finizio's office has announced.

Zak Leavy, Finizio's executive assistant, said traffic will be limited to emergency vehicles and evacuating residents beginning at that time. The decision was made based on the recommendation of the New London Police Department.

Gov. Dannel Malloy has also ordered that all state highways be closed to non-emergency traffic at 1 p.m. This follows an order to prohibit trucks from limited access highways, which went into effect at 11 a.m.
