New London Streets Closing At 1 P.M.

Traffic to be limited to emergency vehicles and evacuees beginning this afternoon

New London's streets will be closed to traffic beginning at 1 p.m., Mayor Daryl Finizio's office has announced.

Zak Leavy, Finizio's executive assistant, said traffic will be limited to emergency vehicles and evacuating residents beginning at that time. The decision was made based on the recommendation of the New London Police Department.

Gov. Dannel Malloy has also ordered that all state highways be closed to non-emergency traffic at 1 p.m. This follows an order to prohibit trucks from limited access highways, which went into effect at 11 a.m.

What about those residents coming back home after work?

Does anyone know if evacuation of the downtown area has been extended past Bank Street?
Zak Leavy October 29, 2012 at 08:32 PM
There was no evacuation of downtown. There was a parking ban. We are urging all people to stay indoors. It is unsafe at this time to get to the emergency relocation shelter.
