Mayor Daryl Finizio announced today that three members of the New London Fire Department have received promotions.
Lt. Edward Sargent has been promoted to battalion chief. Firefighters Joe Hancock and Rocco Basilica were promoted to lieutenants.
Finizio said he acted on the recommendations of Deputy Fire Chief Henry Kydd and Chief Administrative Officer Jane Glover in making the promotions.
“I’m very proud to announce these promotions and I am confident in each individual’s ability to do the jobs for which they have been selected,” said Finizio. "By proceeding with these promotions, the city administration also believes that these promotions will lower overtime costs in the fire department.”
Sargent has been with the department since March 27, 1989, and received a promotion to lieutenant on Oct. 19, 2007. Hancock joined the department on June 6, 1996, while Basilica joined on July 27 of that year. Finizio said each of the three men has received numerous unit citations and commendations during their career.
The promotions will go into effect on Feb. 1, when a formal ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
