Attention high school artists!

Congressman Joe Courtney has announced that the 2012 Congressional Art Competition is accepting submissions through April 30.

According to the press release, eastern Connecticut students in grades 9 through 12 can enter to have their piece displayed in the United States Capitol along with works from the other districts.

The district winner will be announced on May 4 at the District Art Show and Competition, the press release says.

“Over the course of six years hosting this competition in eastern Connecticut, hundreds of young artists have participated,” Congressman Courtney said in the release. “Arts in education are an important part of learning, and I encourage students to participate again this year.”

The release says that teachers and students interested in having their class participate must contact the congressman's office.

Students must submit a completed 2012 Student Information and Release form along with their piece by 4 p.m. on Monday, April 30 to Congressman Courtney’s Norwich District Office, located at 55 Main St., Suite 250.
