Connecticut Gun Control: State Lawmakers Seek Compromise

While a new poll shows many in Connecticut support new gun control measures, state lawmakers have yet to come out with a unified plan.

Legislative leaders negotiated late Wednesday on bipartisan consensus on gun control, one day after the governor's special task force on gun violence split along party lines on new weapons proposals. The lawmakers are expected to meet again this morning to continue the talks, the Connecticut Mirror reports.

Democratic and Republican leaders met for more than two hours Wednesday night to work on a unified response to the mass murder of 26 children and women at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14. The task force was formed in mid-January by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, among much political fanfare on Connecticut's response to the devastating shootings in Newtown.

On Tuesday, the task force issued two gun control plans, one from Democrats, the other from Republicans. The panel's inability to formulate a single plan has drawn criticism from several quarters. About two weeks ago Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, frustrated by what he said was a lack of momentum by the task force, issued his own proposals on gun control.

Criticism of the panel is beginning to mount from other quarters as well. In an editorial yesterday the Connectict Post called the task force the "Politics as Usual Non-Working Group," adding that legislators on the panel had "retreated to positions that were long ago entrenched" on gun control."

While a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows broad support among Connecticut residents for gun control in the wake of the Newtown shootings, a report in Thursday's Hartford Courant says other states are moving on specific gun control measures while Connecticut lags behind.

This is a one party state. The democrat majority scorns the Republican minority and will never take into consideration any of their viewpoints or suggestions unless they happen to be the same. The state license plate motto is incorrect. Connecticut is no longer the "Constitution State" it is well on the way to a communist state. The Connecticut Constitution, Article First, Section 15 is no more and Section 7 is doomed.

American exceptionalism wasn't a birth right, and this country wasnt built on high taxes and restrictive gun laws. The American liberal is suicidal and on mind altering drugs, they have no moral authority to lead and their elections are fraudulent. All this isnt going to end well, nothing you can do but prepare. Good luck to you all, God speed.

Does he live in the condo at the Harbor House? Does he rent it out? Is the house in Mansfield aRead More rental property? Does he think that just because he has a property in New London and may not truly reside in it, that he is a New London resident. I would be interested in hearing his spin on this.

You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people when they haveRead More Kathleen Mitchell looking out for them. This is just sickening how with all the evidence that Kathleen has provided that Jeff Smith is not suspended as of today. The arrogance of this entire administration is beyond belief. I want to know what the Mayor has to say about this and I also would like to hear from Macrino, Hyslop and Passero.
