Building Trades Council Endorses Buscetto For New London Mayor

Announcement made outside of City Hall

In a brief rally held outside of on a foggy Thursday morning, the New London-Norwich Building and Construction Trades Council endorsed for mayor of New London.

Keith Brothers, president of the council, described Buscetto as the only candidate who has experience in job creation. He criticized the process of the Parade renovation, saying it was done by “substandard contractors.” If the City Council had accepted an ordinance put forth by Buscetto, Brothers claimed, contractors would have been given greater scrutiny and local workers would have had greater involvement.

“That’s what Mike’s about, putting local people to work,” said Brothers. “Mike is one of the dying breed of politics: a person who is straightforward, absolutely honest, not dipping into pots for his personal welfare or well-being, but digs deeply when the citizens of New London need something.”

Buscetto, a real estate developer, thanked the union for its support and asked for a moment of silence to observe Workers Memorial Day. He said he sees workers such as those in the union as the “fabric of southeastern Connecticut, as well as the country.”

“This is not something that came about because it’s an election year,” said Buscetto. “This is something that came about over years of a trusting relationship.”
