Waterford Plane Incident Not Affecting Ocean Beach Park

Some concerns over possible spilled fuel, but activities and events are unaffected

A small plane that went down on a Waterford beach near this afternoon is not affecting the New London beach's activities.

The plane made an emergency landing in a marshy area of Waterford Beach Park, which is separated from Ocean Beach Park by a creek leading out of Alewife Cove. David Sugrue, general manager of the park, said Ocean Beach remains open and a classic car Cruise Night scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. will still take place.

"We are asking people to stay out of the creek in the outside chance there is fuel or something in the water, but we are open and its a perfect beach day here," said Sugrue. "We hope to see everyone tonight for our Cruise Night and concert."
