Warrant Still Sealed In Miguel Vega Case

Judge says investigation into 2010 shooting is continuing, more arrests may be made

A judge has extended the period of time during which an arrest report in a 2009 homicide will remain out of the public eye.

Justice Patrick J. Clifford said the report in the case of 27-year-old will remain sealed until at least September 14. A probable cause hearing, which will determine whether police had enough evidence to charge Vega with a crime, will take place the same day.

Vega’s attorney, Bruce McIntyre, k that the private nature of the document was making it more difficult to share details with potential witnesses. Clifford said today that McIntyre has a copy of the arrest report and that the state has no objection to the defense holding discussions about it, but that McIntyre is not to distribute any copies of the document.

“There is a continuing investigation and there may be one or more other arrests in connection with this case,” said Clifford.

Vega is accused of murdering 21-year-old Rahmel Perry on March 3, 2010. According to information released by police, two gunmen opened fire in a second-floor apartment at 53-55 Prest Street. Perry was killed and then 20-year-old Michael Ellis was wounded. Police said an argument at earlier in the evening may have led to the shooting.

Police issued a warrant for Vega’s arrest, and he was later arrested on drug charges following a vehicle stop in Norcross, Ga. He was extradited from Georgia earlier this year and on June 24 made his first appearance on charges of murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, home invasion, and criminal possession of a firearm. He is being held on a $2 million bond.
