Unclear on the Concept Of A Protective Order

New London man arrested for violating a protective order just hours after the court imposed it as a result of a domestic violence case.

Jose Rodriguez, 52, of 62 Jay Street in New London was arrested on August 26 for violating a protective order. Earlier that day, Rodriguez had appeared in New London Court to answer a charge of breach of peace stemming from his arrest for domestic violence on August 23.

Rodriguez had been held over the weekend on a $2,500 surety bond and was presented in court on Monday, where he was served with a protective order barring him from returning to the victim's residence, with the exception of one trip with a police escort to collect his belongings. The court also ordered him to stay 100 yards away from the alleged victim.

Apparently undeterred by the court order, Rodriguez returned to the residence on his own to pick up his belongings, where he came into contact with the original victim. New London police arrested him, again, and charged him with violating a protective order. He is now being held on a $25,000 surety bond.
