Three New London Residents Charged In Credit Card Larcenies

Connecticut State Police charge two men, one woman with over $326K in theft

Three New London residents have been arrested after an investigation into credit card fraud.

Joseph Ellis, 44, of 158 Hawthorne Drive and Michael Hyslop, 28, of 70 Farmington Ave., were each charged with first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny. Police also charged 25-year-old Shauntay Ellis, of 208 Shaw Street, with failure to appear in court.

According to Lt. J. Paul Vance, public information officer with the Connecticut State Police, troopers and detectives with the Casino Licensing and Operations Unit executed four search warrants and the three arrest warrants at about 10 a.m. this morning. Vance said the arrests came after a lengthy investigation into several people suspected of fraudulently using credit cards to commit larcenies amounting to over $326,00, and that police seized evidence and recovered "a large amount of stolen property."

Vance said that in addition to the three people arrested, police will charge three people who are currently incarcerated with crimes related to the case.

Also assisting in the investigation were the Eastern District Major Crime Squad, Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force, Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Postal Inspector’s Office, , Groton City Police Department, Groton Town Police Department and the Waterford Police Department.

Vance said the investigation is continuing and that more arrests are expected.
