Threatening Texts Lead To Arrest Of New London Man

Hamden police charged with threatening via text message to kill his ex-wife unless she drops pending charges against him.

A New London man ended up behind bars Sunday night after he allegedly sent threatening texts to his ex-wife, who was at a Hamden location, threatening to kill her unless she drops charges she has filed against him, according to police.

At about 8 p.m. Hamden police got a report of the harrassment at a home at the corenre of Bear Path Road and Hume Drive, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Officers learned that the 22-year-old New Haven woman had received a text from her ex-husband, identified as Mark Harris, 30, of 40 Montauk Ave., New London, where he allegedly "threatened to kill her and threatened bodily harm if she didn’t drop a pending criminal charge that she had filed against him," Smith said.

Harris was wanted on an active arrest warrant for larceny out of New Haven, according to Smith.

"With the assistance of the , Harris was taken into custody," Smith said. "He was then turned over to the Hamden Police Department."

He was charged with intimidating a witness and second-degree threatening, detained on a $25,000 bond, and scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Monday, where his case was continued to Aug. 13.
