Detectives from the New London Police Department have closed the investigation into the purported sexual assault that took place on 7/20/13 in the downtown area.
Following several weeks of active investigation into the allegation, investigators have concluded that the facts and circumstances initially reported to police by the victim turned out to be an untrue accusation. The victim has recanted her original version of this event, changing the facts of this allegation from what was initially reported to police as a violent random sexual assault. Investigators will continue looking into aspect of this incident, but no arrests are expected at this time.
The initial investigation into this incident by experienced, trained investigators found deceptive information in the original version of the complaint given to uniformed officers on 7/20/13, this creating questions about the circumstances surrounding this sexual assault allegation.
Information developed by detectives assigned to the case directly contradicts the leaked information that a sketch of the suspect had been completed, but never released to the public. Limited cooperation from the complainant did not provide enough correct information to assist a state police artist to prepare a sketch.
The New London Police Department strives to continue to provide the public with accurate information related to crimes taking place within the city. The Internal Investigation into the notification process surrounding this case and the leaking of confidential police documents is on going.
