Witnesses told police that a man fired shots at them and stole their cell phones on Friday evening after asking for marijuana.
Deputy Chief Peter Reichard of the said the witnesses were standing near a parked car close to the intersection of Waller Street and Cedar Grove Ave. at about 9:46 p.m. when the man approached them. They said the man was looking for marijuana and they told him they did not have any.
The witnesses said the man then took a handgun from his waistband and fired several rounds after they fled on foot. They later found that two cell phones had been taken from their car, and suspected that the man took them before leaving the area.
Police searched the scene with a K-9 unit and found two spent shell casings in a nearby wooded area.
The perpetrator was described as a light-skinned black man, about 6'1" with a medium build and braided hair. He was wearing a baseball cap, black shirt, and shorts. Anyone with information on the incident should contact the Detective Division at 860-447-1481.
