Shots Fired In Downtown New London

Man with handgun seen fleeing area of State Street and Washington Street

A man with a handgun was seen fleeing the area of State Street and Washington Street early this morning after several shots were fired downtown.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard of the said police officers were working a bar closing detail at 2 a.m. when they heard a rapid series of shots from the area. Shortly after, the department received calls that a man with a silver handgun fired the weapon. Officers responded to the scene but did not find the man at the intersection or along the path he fled.

Witnesses described the suspect as an unknown black male wearing a white T-shirt and tan pants. Police recovered several spent handgun shell casings on the sidewalk and street of the State Street and Washington Street intersection.
