Saying Farewell to New London Police K-9 Buck

The New London Police Department officers, with heavy hearts, said "good-bye" to their retired K-9 Buck, who died after battling cancer.

"Until Buck’s retirement in June 2013, he was handled by Officer Michaud," police said on the department's Facebook page. "Since that time, he has lived with Officer [John] Michaud as a member of his family."

Buck's retirement made headlines after community members helped raise funds for his arthritis medication. They hoped raising the funds would allow Buck to continue being a police K9 as the department was unable to pay for the costs of medication, NBC Connecticut reports.
