The and New London Community & Campus Coalition have teamed up to provide a way to safely dispose of old prescription drugs.
The drop box is located in the police department’s lobby, which is open 24-7. Tony Mollica, community coordinator with NLCCC, said the police will take the drugs to the incinerator to be destroyed once they are collected.

Mollica said flushing pills down the toilet allows the drugs to enter the water supply. He said the drop box is a safe way to dispose of drugs and avoid their potential misuse.
“Since prescription drugs are in every home with easy access, today’s youth are having ‘pill parties’ and taking drugs that were never meant for their consumption,” Mollica said in a press release.
The drop box is intended only for prescription drugs. It should not be used for materials such as aerosol inhalers, liquids, or syringes.
