Police Union Food Drive Set for Saturday

Union members will collect non-perishables, turkeys and cash in the ShopRite parking lot between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The New London Police Union Local 724 will hold its annual holiday food drive to benefit the United Way Gemma E. Moran Food Center this Saturday, Nov. 23.

Police Union members will be set up in the ShopRite parking lot on North Frontage Road in New London from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations of non-perishable goods, turkeys and cash will be accepted.

The donated cash will be used to purchase grocery gift cards for the upcoming holidays for some families in need.

"The success of this annual event wouldn’t be possible without the generous assistance of the Capano Family (owners of the New London ShopRite) and the public who help make this event possible,” Police Union Executive Board member and organizer Dustin Adkins said.

“We hope to exceed last years food drive totals of $1,261 cash, 84 turkeys and 2,770 lbs of food," Union President Todd Lynch said. "This event gives our members a chance to make a positive difference in the community we serve.”
