Police: Suspicious Package Was Forgotten Bag

Bus traveler left luggage at Greyhound depot, led to police response

A bus traveler from the Pacific Northwest accidentally caused Tuesday morning's by leaving a bag behind at the bus depot, Deputy Chief Marshall Segar of the said today.

Segar said no charges will be brought against the person, whom he said would not be identified. Segar said the person arrived by bus at the , located adjacent to , where a canvas and leather bag was left leaning against a pillar. A maintenance worker at the train station noticed the bag and reported it to police.

Police determined that the contents of the bag needed further examination after it was X-rayed. Buildings in the area were evacuated, and train and ferry service was stopped. The scene was cleared after the bag was detonated with a controlled water jet.

Inside the bag were "two television remote control devices - with batteries, six feet of coaxial cable, several packages of pipe tobacco, packaging tape, cutting instruments and other assorted items which were either wrapped in plastic or black cloth," said Segar. The items were returned to the traveler.
