Police Seek Pair In Two Robberies

Two men accused of demanding money at gunpoint; second victim determines weapon is fake

Police are looking for two men accused of trying to rob people of money on Wednesday night, apparently while armed with a toy gun.

Deputy Chief Marshall Segar said the first incident was reported at 9:30 p.m. A man approached a driver in his car outside on Jefferson Ave. while holding what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money. The victim of the robbery attempt drove away and was not harmed.

Half an hour later, two men approached a person in the area of Hempstead Street and Manwaring Street, displaying a handgun, and demanded money. The person thought it was a joke until they repeated the demand, then determined that the gun was made of plastic. Segar said this person disarmed one of the men, and both fled.
