Police Make Arrest After Elderly Man Robbed By Bicyclist

New London Police charge Ronald Hart on robbery charges

The New London Police Department arrested a man Friday afternoon on charges that he robbed an elderly man and tried to make a getaway by bicycle.

Acting Chief Peter Reichard said Ronald Hart, whose age was not available, was charged with third-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny, and simple trespass. Hart was being held on a $5,000 bond.

Reichard said a patrol officer saw a man chasing a bicyclist at 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of Huntington and Broad Street. The officer spoke with a 78-year-old man who said he had been robbed of all his money and various identification cards. The man said he had last seen the suspect on a bicycle on Cottage Street.

The officer did not find the suspect when he checked the street, but two teenage boys told him that they had seen a bicyclist ride between two buildings. After the officer checked the street again, he saw Hart walking out from between two houses. Reichard said Hart was positively identified and arrested without incident.
