Police Identify Victim In Saturday Shooting

28-year-old New London man killed on Brainard Street; officers also respond to reported shooting on Shaw Street

The has identified a man who was shot and killed on Saturday on Brainard Street.

Deputy Chief Marshall Segar said 28-year-old Jason Kelly was shot in the area of 74 Brainard Street. Police responded to a call of shots fired at 9:55 p.m. and found Kelly in the street. A ambulance took Kelly to , where he died of his injuries.

The State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting in the investigation.

Shaw Street incident

Police also responded to another reported shooting at 7:51 p.m. on Saturday. Two women said the incident happened in the area of 143 Shaw Street. They told police that they got into a physical altercation with two other women, who drove past soon after and fired shots at them.

"Whereas we are continuing to investigate the case, at this time there is no physical evidence to suggest a shooting occurred," said Segar. "However, evidence of a fight between the groups was found and seized."
