Person Suffers Mild Burns In Ocean Ave House Fire

At least two people were displaced from a fire at 715 Ocean Ave Monday evening.

Monday evening, a fire broke out at a home on Ocean Ave, which injured one person and displaced at least that person and one other.

Just before 7:48 Monday evening, a fire broke out on the second floor of a home at 715 Ocean Ave, according to New London Fire Chief Henry Kidd. One person suffered minor burns in the fire and was brought to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, according to Kidd.

One other woman was home at the time, although she escaped and later refused medical treatment, Kidd said. The Red Cross will work with both people to find them a place to live for the next couple of days, as the home was badly damaged in the fire, he said.

The home is located nearly 100 feet off of the road down a long driveway. Kidd said the long driveway made it difficult to get to the fire, but once the equipment was in place the fire was put out quickly.

Power has since been shut off to the home and, as of Monday evening, the fire marshal's office was on scene investigating the cause of the fire, Kidd said. Kidd said he was not yet sure of the cause of the fire or the name or gender of the victim who was burned in the fire.
