New London Woman Accused of Stabbing Baby in the Buttocks

Police did not disclose the condition of the baby.

A New London woman is being held on $150,000 bond because she is accused of stabbing a four-month-old baby in the buttocks, WFSB 3 television reports. 

Police say Brittany Melendez, 23, is accused of stabbing the baby on May 23 at a Ledge Road residence in New London. 

Melendez was charged with second-degree assault and numerous other changes.

WTNH News 8 reports the incident occurred around 4 a.m. and Melendez was taken into custody Wednesday morning. Police said there was a domestic incident at the house.

Police did not say what injuries the baby sustained. The baby's mother tells WFSB 3 that the baby required stitches, but has healed well.
