The is participating in a national anti-drug and crime prevention effort on Tuesday, hosting a National Crime Watch Night Out celebration at .
The event begins at 4 p.m. and is open to New London students from kindergarten through grade 12. Kindergarten students must be accompanied by a parent, and parents must sign a permission slip (see attached PDFs) in order for their children to attend. A free shuttle bus will pick children up at the Thames River Apartments and Boulder Drive at 4 p.m.
The Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Connecticut will offer games on the beach, and the pool will be open for swimming from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. A hot dog dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m., and a movie will be shown at 8:45 p.m. The shuttle bus will return to the Thames River Apartments and Boulder Drive at approximately 10:30 p.m.
The event is one of several taking place across the country for the 29th annual National Night Out, which has goals such as strengthening police-community relations and increasing drug and crime prevention awareness. The national effort is overseen by the National Association of Town Watch.
