New London Resident Charged With Animal Abuse

Marissa Clarke, 30, of 70 Coit Street, was placed under arrest and charged with Cruelty to Animals, Failure to Vaccinate, and Failure to License a Dog. She has since signed her 10-year-old pitbull, Matisse, over to New London Animal Control.

On September 4, an Assistant Animal Control Officer from the New London Police Department responded to 94 Blinman Street to a report of an abandon/abused animal and found an adult male pit bull tied up behind the house.

The animal was suffering from numerous medical conditions and was transported to a local animal hospital for treatment. On September 6, shortly after 5:00 p.m. the owner of a male pit bull reported that her dog had been missing since September 3, when she tied the dog up in front of a convenience store on Bank Street.

The animal reported missing matched the description of the pit bull located on September 4. Upon verifying that this was the same pit bull, the owner of the dog was placed under arrest for animal neglect and failure to vaccinate.

Marissa Clarke, 30, of 70 Coit Street, was placed under arrest and charged with Cruelty to Animals, Failure to Vaccinate, and Failure to License a Dog. Clarke was issued a summons to appear in court on September 23.
