New London Police Warn Of Telephone Scam

NLPD says residents should not give out any personal information over the phone

The has issued a warning and advice for residents after incidents of telephone scamming.

Carl C. Brisson-Lopez, crime prevention officer with the NLPD, said people have been receiving calls for false products and services, including prizes and chimney sweeping services. Callers have also claimed to be from banks or other organizations and requested updated account information, or have requested that the call recipient take out cash advances or send money.

Brisson-Lopez said the scammers are using a program to generate a false local number on caller IDs, making them difficult to trace. He said residents should not give out any personal information over the phone, conduct business via an unsolicited call, or forward money to a stranger.
