New London Police Seeking Subjects Involved In Hospital Fight

The is continuing its investigation into the assault on an arrested man on Saturday evening at .

Deputy Police Chief Peter Reichard said 20-year-old Darwin Irizarry of 48 Crystal Ave. was taken to the hospital following his arrest by the Groton City Police Department earlier in the day. Reichard said officers were called to the hospital at about 6:21 p.m. after two men, family members of a person involved in the Groton City arrest, assaulted Irizarry as he was walking through the lobby.

Reichard said a doctor and several nurses intervened to try to stop the assault. The men fled the scene after learning that hospital security and police had been called. One doctor chased them and give police descriptions of the assailants as well as their vehicles.

According to , the incident triggered a two and a half hour lockdown at the hospital, during which time only patients and their immediate family members were allowed into the emergency department.
