New London Police Nab Alleged Motorcycle Thief [UPDATED]

The alleged incident occurred at Ocean Beach Park on Sunday, July 6. Police arrested three men in connection with the alleged theft.

New London police officers arrested three men in connection with an alleged motorcycle theft over 4th of July weekend.

According to police, an Ocean Beach Park employee notified on-duty New London Police Department officers assigned to the park, that they observed someone attempting to steal a motorcycle.

The person — later identified as Arnaldo Vega of Holyoke, Mass. — reportedly dropped the motorcycle upon seeing police and allegedly fled the scene.

A foot chase ensued, but Vega was picked up by a BMW after hiding in a Highland Avenue backyard, police reported. Patrol officers stopped a 2011 black BMW on Ocean Avenue.

"It was determined that a passenger in the vehicle was the person who other officers had observed attempting to steal the motorcycle at OBP and fled on foot," according to New London Police. "Two other males were in the vehicle, as well as burglary tools."

Police arrested three people on the following charges: 

  • Lizardo Vega, 28, of 32 Palmyra St., Springfield, Mass. — Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the Second Degree
  • Jose Gonzalez, 28, of 535 State St. #4, Ludlow, Mass. — Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the Second Degree
  • Arnaldo Vega, 27, of 203 Chestnut St. #3, Holyoke, Mass. — Larceny in the Second Degree; Criminal Mischief in the First Degree; Criminal Trover in the First Degree; Possession of Burglary Tools; Interfering with Police; Criminal Impersonation after allegedly providing a false name during the booking process
