Updated: New London Police Make Arrest in Tuesday Shooting

Police said the investigation is continuing.

A 36-year-old Norwich man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting earlier in the day on Williams Street. Police were able to locate the suspect because he was wearing an ankle monitoring device from a previous conviction.

The shooting — in which no one was injured — happened at 3:42 p.m., Tuesday at 424 Williams St., according to a release from Deputy Chief Peter G. Reichard. A number of 911 calls reported two males were involved. Police recovered a .45 caliber shell casing at the scene.

According to a release sent Wednesday morning by Reichard, the investigation yielded the name of a "firm suspect" and police worked with the probation department to find Jamel McIntosh at 9 Buell Place "after an extensive search of surrounding homes and yards."

McIntosh, of 84 Sandy Lane, Norwich, was charged with:

  • first-degree criminal attempt at assault
  • criminal possession of a firearm
  • altering a serial number on a firearm
  • first-degree reckless endangerment
  • unlawful discharge of a firearm
  • use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • carrying a pistol without a permit

He is being held on $150,000 bond.
