New London Man Dies After Fall at Transfer Station
Local man fatally wounded by fall into trash compactor.
New London police released the identity of a local man who was killed at the city transfer station Thursday afternoon after falling into the trash compactor.
New London resident Floyd Smeeton, 59, fell into the compactor shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday while unloading his truck and became wedged in the machinery, NBC Connecticut reports.
Emergency responders were able to free Smeeton, however he ultimately succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital, according to NBC.
