New London Man Arrested In Fatal New Jersey Accident

Eric Hernandez arrested after accident on Garden State Parkway

A 26-year-old New London man and his passenger were arrested over the weekend after a fatal accident on the Garden State Parkway over the weekend.

Eric Hernandez was charged Saturday with causing death or injury while driving unlicensed and under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance after striking a man who was helping to move a disabled vehicle, according to Star-Ledger Wire Services. The accident killed 34-year-old Anibal Espinoza of North Plainfield, N.J.

According to the report, Espinoza was one of four people in a van that pulled over to assist a motorist after her car spun out of control in icy conditions on the highway. As they were moving the vehicle to the side of the road, Hernandez's car also lost control and collided with Espinoza and the disabled car. The other three people assisting the motorist suffered minor injuries.

Another New London resident, 26-year-old Carlvina Williams, was released but charged with under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and obstruction, according to the Hartford Courant.
