New London Fire Leaves Couple Temporarily Homeless

Firefighters responded to a fire at 20 Raymond Road in New London this morning.

Commuters crossing the Gold Star Bridge this morning may have wondered where all the smoke was coming from. It was a fire at a single family home at 20 Raymond Road in New London. The fire was reported at about 8:45 a.m. on December 3. New London Firefighters and the Naval Submarine Base FAST team responded to the 911 call. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze in about half an hour.

New London Fire Chief Henry Kydd told the New London Day that the fire began on the second floor and reached up into the attic. According to the Day, one of the two residents was home at the time. No injuries were reported but the American Red Cross was on the scene to assist the home's occupants, who will have to find somewhere else to stay for the time being.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
